My first business venture was begun in 1985 with my son, Jon D Cloyd Jr (age 10) to fill the need for details in the growing N scale Train market. Over the years JnJ has grown from supplying just a few detail parts to offering over 500 distinctive items. Including body shells, etched and metal details, and special run cars. In 1995 JnJ started distributing the JnJ line thru Walthers N&Z catalog and the website www.jnjtrains.com. When Jr graudated from High School he went to work for a railroad as a Engineer and thus we needed another "J" to fill the void that Jr created. My wife and mother of our 4 children, Jo Ann quickly filled the void, thus JnJ remained in tact and she is an important part of JnJ today.
In 1997 I met Troy Borgerson. He become one of our customers and showed me a boxcar he had made. I asked if he could make another as a Master. Since 1997 he has been making Masters and doing detail development for JnJ trains.
Later in 1997, I decided to retire from John Deere after 30 years in the Quality Control Department. Since my wife Jo Ann and I like to travel I could see the model train business was not gong to work for us. We had a pickup and I checked out the cover business and became familar with the RETRAX Retractable covers. With my 30 years dealing with quality I found the Retrax exceeded my expectation of a truly quality product. We approached Troy about buying JnJ TRAINS and and we came to terms quickly! Now all we needed was a website, our laptop computer and a cell phone so customers could reach us by phone or e-mail where ever we happened to be.
